Detailed description of Cohasse Country Club
Cohasse Country Club is a Private, 9 hole golf course is located less than two miles south from the center of located in Southbridge, Massachusetts.
Designed by Donald Ross, the course was built in 1916 and is the fourth oldest nine-hole Ross Design in New England. The Wells family, which owned American Optical Company in Southbridge and founded Old Sturbridge Village, hired Ross to design a nine-hole golf course for the company’s employees and named it Cohasse, which is a Nipmuc Indian word for “land of the tall pines,”
The picturesque course rambles in gently rolling hills surrounded by the forest and ponds.
The Cohasse Country Club Golf Course includes nine-holes and encompasses 3,061 yards of golf for a par of 35. There are extra tee locations for those who wish to play a double loop 18 holes.
Known for outstanding conditions and greens that roll true, the course is challenging and at the same time rewarding to all who play.
In his book, “The Finest Nines,” that was published in February, former Southbridge resident Anthony Pioppi ranked Cohasse as the eighth best nine-hole golf course in North America.

As a former member and one that has left I will try to be as objective as possible. A new greens keeper has done an excellent job in maintaining what is left of the original Donald Ross design. Unfortunately, weak minds have decided to cut down, in my opinion strategic trees around many of the holes, making this course only a shadow of what it once was. A 130 rating for this course is like putting a jackass into the Kentucky Derby and being proud of the fact that it is running. Hopefully level minded people will get back in power and restore what can still be restored.
